This film was one of the most profound films I have ever seen. It stays with you that heartbreaking aching feeling of desperation gives me chills thinking about it. A must see beautifully made and acted.
I was looking forward to this movie, I loved some of Von Trier’s other stuff (Dogville). But honestly, ‘strained’ is right. It was like straining for 90 minutes and popping out one mini-sized m&m.
This was the worst and most painful film I have watched in a long time. Nothing against art house, but this was pretentious and strained for the sake of it. From about 10 minutes in i was cheering for the planet. Plus, you can’t watch Kiefer Sutherland now without expecting him him to save the world.

I didn,t really enjoy the movie.
Evestar it is shot pretentious shut about burgeois fear and coping mechanisms regarding death. The end was the only decent bit the rest of it was pretentious drivel and didn’t even have the atmosphere of Antichrist or it’s arresting visuals that saved it from being complete pants like this.

for the people who are saying this movie is “shit” its a psychological drama, depicting how different individuals (including severly depressed people) deal with “The End of the world” scenario. if you didn’t like it , its because you’re more suited to movies like Transformers!
the scifi bit looks cool but the story and actors here look BORING

As much as I didn’t like the actual movie, the ending was really beautiful and heartbreaking.
@yazzy613 Before Melancholia, I would agree. After Melancholia, I can honestly say she has definitely matured as an actress. A very harrowing and affecting portrayal of what people suffering from clinical depression face.
